The Speakers’ Profile

  • Kara Brandell

Kara Brandell is a licensed child psychologist and has been a psychologist at Park Nicollet for 12 years and the clinical manager for Child and Family Behavioral Health for 7 years.  She completed her undergraduate education at the University of Minnesota-Duluth, and graduate education at the Minnesota School of Professional Psychology.

As a part of Kara’s education, She completed a one-year internship at the University of Tennessee and a one-year postdoctoral fellowship at Fraser in the Twin Cities.  Her clinical work has focused on providing psychological evaluations and psychotherapy to children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder, anxiety, behavioral disorders, and depression and their families.

In therapy, She employs strategies from cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, behavioral therapy, acceptance, and commitment therapy, motivational interviewing, and play therapy.

  • Abigale J. Harris

Abigale J. Harris is a licensed Independent Clinician Social Worker. She graduated with her MSW from Loyola University Chicago in 2015 and worked for several years in North Carolina before moving to Minnesota in 2018.

A majority of her early experience was crisis based, ranging from working in a psychiatric emergency department and inpatient unit to in-home crisis-based therapy. She works primarily with adolescents and also see some young adults.

The primary concerns she works with in therapy are depression, anxiety, self-harm, suicidal thoughts, life transitions, challenging family systems, and relational concerns. Abigale utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Supportive Psychotherapy but also employs DBT skills, and she’s trained in Accelerate Resolution Therapy as a trauma intervention.

Abigale has been on the Child and Family Behavioral Health team at Park Nicollet for almost three years and this is her second year involved with the NOW! Program through Burnsville High School.

  • Paul Danicic

Paul’s role at Park Nicollet Foundation is to manage the partnerships for the Park Nicollet Foundation’s community programs, most of which are school-based. He enjoys working at the nexus of Education and Health Care as our programs happen where the students “do life”.

The partnership programs have been shown to increase access to health and reduce barriers to learning. To him, this is bringing equity and a much-needed health component to youth development.

Before coming to Park Nicollet Foundation, Paul has been the Executive Director for a regional environmental non-profit and also YMCA Camp Menogyn, a wilderness expedition camp in Northeastern Minnesota. During that time, He worked to improve the lives of young people and increase their connection to their own self, others, and the natural world.
